Our Smith's replacement heater core is designed to replace the round donut style Smiths heater cores which used a seamed flat tube formed in a circle and set between layers of serpentine fins. The lap seams are susceptible to joint failure and difficult to repair and serpentine fins may separate from a tube in time due to vibration and corrosion.
The only available replacement is a large round tube with a spiral wound copper fin that is intended for an alternative use. The large tubes do not maximize coolant wall contact and restrict airflow. Additionally this thinner core design requires a fan placement modification to match the OE dimensions.
We re-designed the Smiths heater core to do a better job than both alternatives by using smaller diameter and .010 wall round copper tubes with flat copper fins.
Images shown are of complete heater cores and housings. We make just the heater core.
