Lexus 1992-1996 SC400/SC300 Heater Core
HC 92-96 Lexus EC300/EC400
We got a call that SC400 and SC300 heater cores are no longer supplied in copper and the ES300 andES400 made of aluminum from China is almost $200. What is going on?
Looked into it further and found this post from Deanshark on the ClubLexus forum which made us laugh. Yes we will make this one
"If anyone is thinking about doing this, good luck. Figured I'd let everyone know what NEEDS to come out before ya start. I just gotta laugh at this thing. If you don't have a service manual do not, I repeat, do NOT attempt to do this job. After removing center console, radio, glove box, L and R garnish trim, air bags, steering wheel and column, about 20 wire plugs, and other misc. parts finally the dash pad can come out. But then, dash pad brace, 6 different computors, about 30 more wire plugs, and a boat load of ducts, then ya see the blower unit and heater assembly. Then from under hood ya got the heater hoses, cruise control actuater, and A/C lines off the blower unit. Then back inside, the blower unit comes out and then the heater assembly, then, 3 screws and ya finally got the heater core out. In the manual it says to remove the front seats to remove the rear ducts before the heater assembly comes out. I wasn't gonna go that far into it. What I did was just pry the ducts apart. (they bend) When I put them back in I bent them and forced them in and wrapped them with duct tape. Install is just like everything else, reverse of removal. I'm about half way installed now. I have left the dash pad and backwards from there. My H/C was shot. I saw 3 leaks and it was clogged. I should be done tomorrow and I will have heat. (I hope) Well, that was my New Years so far. If I knew it was this much work I would have just bypassed it and went w/o heat still, but I'll be happy when it's done."
